Another definition that I want to put here belongs to Techopedia

One is that it is a highly competitive area. With around 167 million results for ‘Marketing’ on Google, it goes without saying that you’re in for a difficult fight to get everywhere near the first page.

The keyword difficulty (from 1-100%) shows you an estimation of how difficult it would be to grab your competitors’ places in the Google or Bing top 10 with a particular keyword. The higher the percentage, the more effort you will need to outrank your opposition for targeted keywords.

Such as I try to find keyword difficulty for “coconut oil for hair”

the following result is showing 82 % difficult

keyword difficulity

On the Other Hand when the search for “can coconut oil help hair growth” then the keyword difficulty is lesser than above, such as 79%.

keyword difficulity less

  • Above 80%: shows you the most difficult keywords. You will have to spend a lot of SEO and link-building efforts, as well as time before you’ll be able to enter the Google top 10. If you have a new site, you should not an emphasis on extremely competitive keywords.

General Search

To get worthy low competition keywords Type the keyword into Google and make a note of the results. There are no hard and fast rules, use your own judgment. If the search results return over 100,000,000 pages, then there will be a chances that the keyword is quite competitive. Conversely, if the results are less than 1,000,000 then it is possible that the competition is not so bad. Use a common search to get a sensation for the size of the competition.

Look at This picture when we search for “SEO” the search result shown 512,000,000 result which is too much

On the other hand when we use low competition and long tail keyword “beginner guide to SEO”  then hr result show “1060,000, which shows much lowest competition.

Use of “Inanchor” Search

The next step is to perform the following search into Google. Type the following

inanchor: ”keyword”
The inanchor search command shows you how many websites have the keyword as anchor text pointing back to their website. We may assume if they have the exact anchor text pointing back to their website that they have done some type of linking building campaign for that keyword. Therefore, it is reasonable to accept that they are competitive.  Generally, a result of under 1,000 is good and definitely under 100,000 search results.

Let see your keyword result is about “1130” in google search engine so you have to try to get another keyword probably less result for the perfect result.

 inanchor search

Implement “Intitle” Search

For batter, result to find low competition keywords you have to do the following search into Google:   intitle: “keyword”
This result will reveal how many websites having the keyword in the title tag. It is usually believed by most SEO specialists that the title tag is particularly significant for SEO, as it is one of the first things that the search engines look for. This command can help give us an approximate figure of the total number of websites opposite for this keyword. Decided, some websites may have put these keywords in their title tag by chance, but the common use to put it there for a reason; i.e., they want to rank for a specific keyword. No hard and fast rules about the figures, observably the lower the better.

The Red box shows intitle search (1210 result have the same title)

intitle search

Perform “Intitle” And “Inanchor” Search

Now you want to perform both the inanchor and intitle search term for low competition keywords. Input the following into Google

beginner duide to seo

intitle:”keyword” inanchor:”keyword”
This will show you an estimated result of serious SEO competition. Clever SEO marketers will have the keyword in the title tag and will be building backlinks using the keyword as the anchor text. Therefore, I think this can helps to give us a fairly good idea of the competition. Remember the lower the search results from this command the health. Results of less than 1,000 may indicate to us that we can beat them with a relatively small amount of backlink building. The higher the number the more competition.

Analyzing the Top 10 Websites for low competition keywords

Hopefully, now you have selected a low competition keyword such that has a good monthly search volume and relatively low link building competition. However, we can’t stop there. You now must examine the top 10 websites on page 1 of Google relating to your keywords. So far we have only compared the number of competitors, not to the strength of the competitors. Spy the compotators is not a crime. It is my opinion that you only need to try and beat the first 10 websites. After all, your goal is to rank number one.

Analyzing the Top 10 Websites

Look at Its Backlinks of Top 10 Sites to get low competition keywords

The next step to have a look at the backlinks that each site in the top 10 results shows. Now, as I have mentioned before, I believe that it is impossible to get an exact result on the number of backlinks that a site has pointing to it, though we can get an idea. And this will be helpful for our blog post.

You can try Moz Open Site Explorer or One Utility For exploring and deep spay. Enter the domain name and have a look at the number of backlinks the site has pointing to it. The more back links means the more backlink building competition for you

Like here I am searching backlinks for 2nd top ranked website of my low competition keyword ” “beginner guide to SEO” having “41 Root Domains and 63 Total Links”

ranked website of my low competition keyword

Age of the Domains

Most SEO specialist considers that older sites are more trusted by Google. Do a quick search to determine the age of the domain to popular low competition keywords. you can use the domain age check for domain age checking.

Look At the Onpage Optimization of Each Site

Here you have to search site go to the homepage and then right click “view source.” This will allow you to see the source code. Check to see if you can find the following,
Keyword at the beginning of title tag.

  • Low competition keywords in the keyword tag
  • Keyword in the description tag
  • Related Keyword in the h1 tags
  • Keyword sprinkled throughout the page.

This can indicate that the site isn’t properly SEO optimized and might be mean that you could take benefit of this. Check out On-Page SEO checklist guide. It is my opinion that it is ‘off-page’ factors, i.e., the number of backlinks that a site has pointing to it that is the most critical!

Analyze Sites Have Your Keyword in the URL

The search engines put some weight on keyword rich domain names. If one of the sites in the top 10 results has the exact keyword you want to rank for as the domain name, then it may be harder for you to beat it. So you have to focus that blog or website. Search deeply and find the weakness of that site. Then you may beat that one.

It will help you to optimize you low competition keywords under a competitive environment you want to have a look at the overall domain authority of the top 10 websites. Now it is quite possible to outrank a site with a higher page rank than yourself, however, it is useful to help build an overall picture of the domains strength. And overcome such difficulties that will occur to rank your blog post.

Check for Prominence of Social Shares

Social signals are fetching more of a ranking factor to control the status of a page. You can use tools like NinjaOutreach or Buzzsumo, to search for content that about a particular keyword phrase or topic to see what articles resonate the most with target audiences.  This useful because it can show what is trending and what is shared the most across all social networks.
